The Democritus University of Thrace Infrastructure of Counseling and Accessibility was established in 2018 aiming to provide all students equal access to educational activities, promoting their personal development and the improvement of their social life.
It offers psychosocial support services free of charge to students with disabilities, particularities and psychological difficulties who face problems in their studies and in their academic and social life. In this way, it contributes to the promotion of constructive learning, academic success and socialization of students.
Structures and services are integrated into the university aiming to provide students with psychosocial support. These services can contribute significantly to their substantive support during this demanding ‘journey’ to adulthood. The structures that meet these challenges efficiently is organized in a way that responds to the particular needs and goals of the university. They concern the student population to which the services are directed to. An important part of these services is the direct management of students’ psychological needs through individual and group counseling. However, it is also of great importance their contribution through prevention and actions regarding awareness on mental and social health issues. Finally, building collaborative relationships and liaisons with other university services and other organizations, entities and services is important in providing the best possible care for students.
