Students with disabilities are part of the student population that is facing many difficulties during their studies. These difficulties may range from access to classes to active participation in the life and academic activities of the University. These difficulties constitute factors that increase the possibilities for a student to postpone, interrupt and / or terminate its studies. Understanding the particular characteristics of these individuals and their complex needs within a learning environment seems to be the first step for the University to make a meaningful contribution to their smooth integration and inclusion into the academic context.

The social and educational differentiation are direct implications of disability which furthers the marginalization of people with disabilities and maintain stereotypical perceptions and negative attitudes towards people with disabilities. The university as a provider of higher education and specialized scientific knowledge should ensure that conditions of studentship are improved to facilitate students transition to the academic environment and to lift any form of exclusion of these individuals from their academic and social life during their studies.
