Depression
Young people throughout their academic life are confronted with a wide variety of changes and challenges. They have to deal with a lot of new data and respond to the demands of adult life. Such a period of life can often go with negative feelings and emotions, such as anxiety, frustration, confusion, melancholic mood and sadness. Difficulties that a person might encounter in areas of his/her life during this time, sometimes can seem as huge and experienced with intense frustration and strong negative emotions.
Whether we are experiencing depressive symptoms or just going through an ugly and pessimistic period in our lives, we could adopt some of the following suggestions to enhance our mental health.
- Stay active. Have interests and hobbies, do things we like.
- Add physical exercise in our lives.
- Set small and realistic goals.
- Plan our tasks and obligations, set priorities.
- Talk to each other, discuss about our problems and express our emotions.
- Go out, meet other people and participate in group activities.
- Try to change pessimistic point of view and start to see things from a new different perspective, focusing more on our strong and positive elements.
